Made Bayou was a workshop series aimed at empowering youth through creative projects. Through Made Bayou, participants learned and utilized design principles through a 4-week course with meetings once a week. Principles were taught through tutorials and in-person lessons, providing a studio-style experience where they created tangible items. The end goal of the workshop series was to culminate in a popup-style shop that exhibited and sold the works made throughout the course. The ultimate goal of Made Bayou was for participants to walk away with a newfound sense of accomplishment and a new skill set they could apply to other creative projects.
My idea for Made Bayou’s branding was to use fun, eye-catching colors referencing the playfulness of childhood. Made Bayou’s logo was inspired by the state flag of Louisiana, which depicts a mother pelican caring for her young.
website
I created a website for Made Bayou with the idea that students would eventually be able to sell their work online.
workshop
The first series was held at Cone Park Library in Gainesville, Florida. During that time, I was able to form relationships with multiple students and observe the library as a public space. I worked with students every week using different printmaking mediums–many of which the students were excited to explore.
